I was always intrigued by the art, the adrenalin rush and reasoning people have for getting a tattoo. I was always told that I will regret getting a tattoo, but after 6 years of wanting one I got my first tattoo. Today, 7 years later, I have 4 of my own and already deciding on the next – so much for “ONLY one, I promise.”
Therefore I decided on “i love tattoos”, a project where I take photos of various people and their tattoos. This artwork will be created by gathering photos of tattooed individually and groups and compiling information relating to the tattoos. This will be presented at an exhibition which will include photography, installation and performance.
These days various people have tattoos and the intention is to show the art behind the tattoos and to show what “type” of people has the love for ink.
The collecting process will start with a snapshot of friends (and then later others) with a “smart phone”. If permission is obtained, photos will be taken at their place of work and later photos will also be taken in either a studio or on location. This will show the diversity of people that have tattoos.
Collection of these photos will be taken from February 2013 until December 2013 after which the exhibition will follow in early 2014.
I am always looking for more tattooed people. Please be in touch if you are interested in getting involved.
