Born in Durban, Michael Tietz-Geldenhuys completed a Bachelor of Arts in 1999 majoring in painting (under the direction of Virginia McKenny) and photography. Initially focusing on photography for a few years, Michael then took part in drawing and painting courses at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy. More recently he focuses on classical realism, portraiture and the sight size method of painting with an emphasis on Chiaroscuro, the play between the emergence of light in darkness.
In 2015 and 2017 Michael were under the Top 100 of the Sanlam Portraiture Competition with a collection of his sight size drawings and paintings.
